ASUS is the new addition to the smartwatch arena with Android Wear and will be in the price range of $99 and $149.
Google's annual I/O Developer Conference has brought the focus on Android Wear smartwatches.
If Samsung's $199 Gear Live or LG's $229 G watch is a bit too high to start off in the wearables, consumers can opt for ASUS with its affordable price tag.
According to TechCrunch, sources familiar with the company's plans confirmed that ASUS is planning to launch its first Android Wear smartwatch later this year. The unnamed smartwatch will likely be a hit among budget conscious customers with ASUS aiming it between $149 and $99. It is important that consumers have a price range covering both ends.
Motorola, with its classic round-faced dial and premium look, is ready to take on the high-end price range. The price for the upcoming Moto 360 is not confirmed but it is estimated to be more than the LG G Watch at around $249.
The sources also revealed that the ASUS smartwatch will feature an AMOLED display along with Google's latest Android Wear.
The company was waiting for Google to fully launch the platform for wearables before announcing its plans. One source revealed that the company did not want to rush efforts and miss out packing in important features.
The tech blog noted that LG's lack of heart rate monitor in the G watch was mainly due to a paucity of time as it was scheduled to meet the Wear launch window.
Details about the ASUS smartwatch are scarce, but sources are pointing to a September launch. Also, since it will be running the Android Wear, the smartwatch will require smartphones with Android 4.3 or higher.
