Doodle 4 Google 2013 Winner: Wisconsin Teen Draws Tender Moment Between Soldier and Daughter

In case you're wondering why Google logo looks a little different today, that's because Google hosted a "Doodle 4 Google" national contest and a Wisconsin teenager won with her artwork called "Coming Home."

Doodle 4 Google is an annual program where k-12 U.S. students may enter a redesign of Google's popular homepage logo, Google said in statement on its website. This year, Sabrina Brady, a senior at Sparta High School, won the grand prize of a $30,000 college scholarship, and a $50,000 technology grant for their school.

The theme this year was "My Best Day Ever..." and Brady said she drew inspiration from the day her father returned home from Iraq after 18 months of military service. The doodle shows a girl, in black and white, moving toward a soldier while holding an American flag in her hand. The last letter in the Google logo is in full color, showing the young girl hugging the soldier which represented the moment she reunited with her father.

"When I was 10 years old, my dad came home from war. This was my best day ever," according to Sabrina Brady of Sparta, Wisconsin.

"Her creative use of the Google letters to illustrate this heartfelt moment clearly resonated with voters across the country and all of us at Google," Ryan Germick, Doodle Team Lead, wrote in a blog post.

Google says millions of votes were cast on 130,000 submissions in its annual contest to design the logo on Google's home page. Google also handed out four $5,000 scholarships to four other National Finalists in the Doodle 4 Google competition. Click here to see the other "Doodle 4 Google" 2013 finalists.
