New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo sat down with The Post-Standard and Syracuse Media Group on Wednesday in Syracuse, New York and made an interesting comment during a discussion exploring term limits as they relate to elect legislative leaders.
The conversation happened at an editorial board meeting in which the governor was asked about a broad range of New York's political issues.
Stephen A. Rogers brought up Anthony Weiner - who has officially announced his candidacy - in the interview, and Cuomo responded, "He runs? He runs."
Rogers then asked, "And if we elect him?" To which the governor responded, "Shame on us."
Weiner's announcement to run for New York City mayor has been met with harsh criticism as the former U.S. Representative resigned after an embarrassing account where a woman alleged Weiner sent her sexually explicit pictures.
Initially Weiner denied the allegation, and quickly apologized for the refutation, absorbed full responsibility, and left his seat in Congress in 2011.
Ignoring his past, Weiner has begun to construct an evolving campaign strategy founded on getting back into neighborhoods and meeting everyday people. His main objective is erasing the scandal, move passed a two-year absence, and get New Yorkers to trust him again.
Thursday marks the first day of his public appearances as he planned to visit a Harlem subway station.
Other New York lawmakers have criticized Anthony Weiner's atypical decision to run for mayor as well.
In an interview with Chris Jansing on Thursday, Representative Charles Rangel, (D) New York, said, "Only in America can we do these types of things," siting Mark Sanford from South Carolina, and now Weiner.
Rangel is no stranger to controversey, the Representative was formally charged with 13 ethics violations by a House investigative panel regarding corrupt practices to solicit donations, as well as omitting large amounts of dollars in income and assets on wage reports.
