NBA Trade Rumors: Nets Deal Jason Kidd To Bucks; Lionel Hollins, Ettore Messina Top Coaching Candidates For Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Nets reportedly traded coach Jason Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks for two second-round picks. Lionel Hollins and Ettore Messina, meanwhile, appear to be the top coaching candidates to replace Kidd.

After reportedly failing in his power push, multiple news outlets report Kidd is now headed to Milwaukee. ESPN and Yahoo Sports both report Brooklyn traded Kidd to the Bucks for two second-round picks: one in 2015 and one in 2019.

The trade followed Kidd reportedly asking last week to run the Nets' basketball operations, a request that the Brooklyn front office turned down.

Brooklyn granted Milwaukee permission to speak with Kidd before the draft, according to ESPN. Kidd and Bucks co-owners Wes Edens and Marc Lasry met on Friday, and soon after Kidd told them he wanted the job.

Edens and Lasry, who had a previous relationship with Kidd, are expected to meet with current coach Larry Drew on Monday and relieve him of his coaching duties.

Although Kidd isn't expected to have a role in Milwaukee's basketball operations, he does inherit a young talented team -- highlighted by Larry Sanders, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker -- that sets him up for better long-term success.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, is expected to pursue Hollins or Messina.

Hollins, per an ESPN source, is a "very serious candidate."

"In a lot of ways, he makes the most sense," the source said of Hollins. "He represents stability, and stability is very important right now. He rules with an iron fist and gets a lot out of his players, so he'd be very high on the list right now, and likely the leader."

Hollins last coached for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 and is known for his "grind-it-out" approach to basketball.

Messina, the other leading candidate for the Brooklyn job, made a name for himself in Europe as the coach of CSKA Moscow.
