Is Robert Downey Jr.'s 20-year-old son following in his father's dark footsteps?
Us Weekly reported that Indio Falconer Downey was arrested Sunday for cocaine possession in West Hollywood. He was reportedly found in the passenger side of a car that was pulled over at around 2:20 p.m. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said two other individuals were in the car with Indio.
A spokesperson for the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department told Us Weekly that on "Saturday afternoon around 2 pm, [Indio Downey] was a passenger in a car. It was stopped by a sheriff's deputy because it appeared he was using narcotics paraphernalia to ingest. He was stopped, investigated and found to be in possession of that paraphernalia and a controlled substance believe to be cocaine."
Law enforcement officials said that the actor's son was seen smoking from a pipe. Los Angeles's KNBC reported that Indio was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest. Police allegedly found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Indio, who appeared in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" alongside his famous father, was arrested on a felony charge and released on $10,250 bail on Monday. A court date was set for Aug. 29.
In a statement to TMZ, the "Iron Man" actor thanked authorities for arresting his son. The actor slightly mentioned his drug addiction in the past, which sent him to rehab and prison and also cost him several acting gigs.
"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," the actor said in a statement. "Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being."
He added: "We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."
Indio is the actor's only son with his first wife, actress Deborah Falconer.
