As a sign of support for the U.S. soccer team's World Cup match against the Belgium Red Devils on Tuesday, popular food chain Waffle House won't be selling Belgian hot cakes.
The fast food chain is instead only offering American-style Waffles - a product the company claims has always been on their menu.
"We don't believe in Belgium (sic) waffles," the company proclaimed on their official Twitter account. Employees also said the item is not an item on the Waffle House menu. "We never have."
"We support a boycott on Belgian Waffles," disclosed a Waffle House spokesperson to TMZ. "We support America. We don't support Belgian Waffles."
Pat Warner, another Waffle House spokesman, vowed that the boycott originated on Twitter.
"One of our fans asked us on Twitter about Belgian waffles," Warner informed The Chicago Tribune. "We responded and said. We will dominate them. It really kind of surprised us how quickly it spread. It kind of gives a nod to how impactful social media is."
"When you look up America in the dictionary, the definition is @WaffleHouse," remarked Twitter user Anna Marie.
One user, SEC Logo stated "Going to @WaffleHouse tomorrow to eat a non-Belgium waffle. #USA."
"We're just supporting team USA hoping they come through with a victory today," Warner said. "We think we have a good shot this year."
The U.S. team competes for a chance to play in the World's Cup round-of-16 against Belgium at 3 p.m. Tuesday. A loss will send the Americans home.
Waffle house has served over 877 of the hot cakes since the company's 1955 opening. Approximately 1,700 locations exist in 25 states, according to The Tribune. Midwesterners consume 28 percent of Waffles consumed in the U.S. compared to all other areas of the country.
