Twitter is looking to help Vine video creators find out how popular their six-second videos are by adding a new feature called loop counts.
The update was added to the social network's video service on Tuesday and includes a running tally in the top right-hand corner that shows how many times people have played the video on the Internet and on the app, according to PC Magazine. Loop counts update in real time, which allows video creators to see whether their videos are going viral.
"With this update, there's now a new way for you to quickly get a sense of how popular and interesting a Vine may be, based on how many times people watched a Vine Loop," Mike Kaplinskiy, lead of Vine API, wrote in a blog post Tuesday.
Some users have complained about Vine's signature loop, which automatically restarts videos each time they're played through one time. Content that appears in the Popular Now section will not be affected by the new loop counts.
Loop tracking was first started by Vine on April 3, 2013, and loop counts for all vines made before this date will have a plus sign next to them. The plus sign indicates that the video may have more loops than shown.
Vine has made other updates to its service, such as changing its home feed to include larger videos that stretch edge-to-edge and updating its Activity Feed. The service also separated Likes and Re-Vines by videos the user has already seen and newer videos. Users will also receive a complimenting push notification when one of their vines is a hit, TechCrunch reported.
Viners can download loop counts for both iOS and Android versions of the app.
Vine said the update provides users with a "new, cleaner feed design," which is "more streamlined, offering you bigger and more beautiful videos," PC Magazine reported. The new version of Vine can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
