Jennifer Love Hewitt Joins Cast of 'Criminal Minds' as Series Regular For Season 10

Jennifer Love Hewitt is heading back to CBS.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old actress has joined the cast of CBS' "Criminal Minds" for its upcoming tenth season as a series regular. Hewitt will play Kate Callahan, a "seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit."

"We're thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast," executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer said in a statement. "Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season."

The "Criminal Minds" cast also includes Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore and A.J. Cook. Actress Jeanne Tripplehorn left the series after two seasons.

Hewitt previously starred as Melinda Gordon in the CBS sci-fi thriller "Ghost Whisperer" for five seasons. The actress also starred in the Lifetime drama, "The Client List" for two seasons. The show was cancelled last November due to reported creative differences.

According to Deadline, Hewitt wanted her real-life boyfriend to play her character's baby daddy in season three; however producers axed the idea for plans to explore several story lines for a possible third season instead. The Golden Globe nominated actress has starred in several movies including "Can't Hardly Wait" and the horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer".

Season 10 of "Criminal Minds" is set to premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
