Google recently released a new map-based game called Smarty Pins to test players' geography skills.
The game uses Google Maps to test players on their knowledge of a variety of events and topics, according to PC Magazine. Several categories are provided in the game, such as Science & Geography, Sports & Games, Arts & Culture, History & Current Events, and Entertainment. Players can ask questions from featured categories, which include World Cup Trivia or March Madness.
The questions asked in Smarty Pins are based on locations, The Next Web reported. For example, the game may ask questions like "In 2011, revolutionaries demanded the removal of President Mubarak from this city's Tahrir square."
Users must then place a pin on the correct location on the map in order to answer questions, and the game will give a helping hand by starting each question in the general area of the answer.
Players start out with 1,000 "miles", which serve as points in the game. They're then able to keep those miles by answering questions correctly. Responding quickly enough will give players bonus miles (up to 15 miles per question), while answering incorrectly will result in miles being taken away, The Next Web reported.
Players have been encouraged to pin the exact location of the answer or else they will lose miles, PC Magazine reported. Virtual trophies will be awarded to those who move up through the questions.
Players will also be able to challenge friends and share their scores on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites.
Google's launch of Smarty Pin follows the search giant's release of Kick with Chrome last month, which is a collection of three browser-based games the company said will "help you tap into your inner soccer champion."
