A 15-year-old boy from Utah was arrested Thursday, after police alleged that he killed his two younger brothers while their mother was out.
Officials say that the boy was arrested on suspicion that he had stabbed his brothers, ages 10 and four, at the family's house, according to Reuters.
He was handcuffed and taken to jail one day after his brothers' bodies were found with what Sgt. Susan Poulsen of the Davis County Sheriff's Office called, "penetrating knife wounds."
"As a result of our investigation, this morning we have taken the 15-year-old juvenile into custody," Poulsen said, mentioning that the boy would be formally charged on Monday. "We believe he acted alone."
Poulsen also said that the knife wounds coincided with the cause of death, but coroners would still perform an autopsy before a final determination was made.
The boys' mother called 911 on Wednesday at around 7:30 p.m. local time, frantically telling the operator that she had come home after running errands and found her 4-year-old son slain on the ground.
She also said that her two older sons had gone missing, and that their father was out of town, on duty in the military.
Police arrived at the home and found the body of the 10-year-old boy inside. They then began searching for the oldest brother, and finally located him at around 12 a.m. in a gated community close by. He was in fine health, but was still taken to the hospital for analysis and treatment of some small wounds.
Poulsen did not expand on the 15-year-old alleged murderer's motives.
"We had enough probable cause to arrest him on suspicion of homicide," she said.
This horrific murder comes just 10 days after a 12-year-old boy was arrested for reportedly killing his younger sister, Leila Fowler, in the Valley Springs Community of California last month.
