'Slender Man' Stabbing Suspect Mentally Unfit For Trial, Doctors Say

Doctors have determined that a 12-year-old Wisconsin girl who allegedly helped stab her friend 19 times to gain favor with a fictional evil character named Slender Man is incompetent to stand trial, officials said Wednesday.

A Wisconsin state doctor and another doctor hired by the girl's defense attorneys drew the conclusion after examing the girl, NBC News reported. But prosecutors have asked that a third test be conducted to see if Morgan Geyser has a mental disorder that makes her unable to stand trial.

Geyser and 12-year-old Anissa Weier are to be tried as adults for almost stabbing their 12-year-old friend to death in a wooded park in Waukesha County on May 31, which authorities say the girls planned for months. The girls carried out the attack to please a mythological demon-like character they learned about on the short story website creepypasta.com, according to police.

Geyser's defense attorneys ordered a mental evaluation shortly after the stabbing.

"We were seeing things that just didn't make sense and hearing things that just didn't make sense," Anthony Cotton, Geyser's attorney, told ABC News.

A second test was then ordered from another doctor. Both of the doctors' finding were presented at a Wednesday court hearing, during which prosecutors asked for another evaluation to assess Geyser's mental state at the time of the attack, the station reported. In the meantime, Cotton's client remains in jail.

"They don't know what the diagnosis is," Cotton told the station. "It may be something they've never seen before...We're losing precious time because the state's doctors could be evaluating her and talking to her about who her imaginary friends are."

When they were questioned by the police, one of the girls, it is not clear who, said she dreamed about the Slender Man and that he could read her mind. Another said they planned on running away to live with the demon in the woods after killing their friend.

The victim, who was left lying in the woods, was able to find help and was rushed to a hospital. She is now at home recovering with her family.
