The St. Louis Cardinals play the San Francisco Giants on Thursday in Game 3 of their series. The game starts at 3:45 p.m. ET. Listen to the live radio broadcast below.
St. Louis bounced back after their Game 1 loss with a 2-0 win over San Francisco, thanks to starting pitcher Adam Wainwright keeping the Giants scoreless. Wainwright pitched just over seven innings and gave up only four hits, and third-inning RBIs from infielder Matt Carpenter and outfielder Matt Holliday gave the Cardinals the lead.
For Wainwright, the game made him the National League leader in ERA (1.89) and wins (11), according to the Associated Press.
"I was aware of that," Wainwright told the Associated Press. "I'm getting outs, so why change? When you start thinking about strikeouts, then you start going deeper into counts. Guys were making great plays and laying out left and right."
Although the Cardinals walked away with the win, manager Mike Matheny acknowledged the offense still needed work.
"We're still trying to figure out a way to score runs," he said. "Those were big RBIs there. It lets Wainwright do what he does. It's no secret he's the guy we want on the mound."
Carlos Martinez (1-3, 4.13 ERA) is tasked Thursday to follow Wainwright's performance. Martinez is coming off a no-decision in his start Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom he allowed only one earned run in St. Louis' 3-1 win.
Opposing Martinez will be Madison Bumgarner (9-5, 2.90), who's looking to bounce back from giving up five earned runs in San Francisco's 6-2 loss against the Cincinnati Reds.
"I felt like I did a good job of staying poised, but it kept snowballing," he said. "I kept focusing on the next guy, but I had a hard time getting out of it."
