As the FIFA World Cup 2014 nears its end, here are early predictions on whether Brazil will get the better of Colombia in the match scheduled for Friday
The FIFA World Cup 2014 has already seen its fair share of drama. From the early elimination of defending champion Spain to the controversial penalty given to Netherlands against Mexico - this world cup has been a rollercoaster ride. Big teams like Italy and England didn't qualify for the Top 16 stage while underdogs Mexico, Costa Rica and Chile turned out to be the surprises this year.
With the tournament entering its top 8 stage, host country Brazil takes on Colombia to fight for a place in the semi-finals. So far, Brazil has failed to impress and play to its potential. Apart from a comfortable 4-1 win against Cameroon, the South American side was seen struggling to find ground. A goalless draw against Mexico gave the Brazilians something to worry about. Croatia put up a good fight against the Brazilians in the tournament's first match but lost 3-1. Brazil was also far from its game against Chile and went on to win the match on penalties.
Colombia, on the other hand, was the underdog of the tournament. No one expected them to come this far but they have -much to everyone's surprise and delight! They bagged all 9 points in the group stage, beating Greece 3-0, Ivory Coast 2-1 and Japan 4-1. They took on Uruguay in the Top 16 round and beat them 2-0 (both goals were scored by James Rodriguez). So it's safe to say that in the tournament so far, this South American side has conceded only 2 goals and has not lost or drawn a match.
Statistically, Colombia has better numbers on the card so far into the tournament but Brazil is said to be the favorites to win the game, Friday. According to IB Times, Brazil will steal a 2-1 win against its fellow South American country. Deccan Chronicle reports otherwise, saying Colombia may take it all in a thrilling win.
The 2014 World Cup quarterfinal match will kick off from the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza at 4 p.m. ET on Friday.
