Own a South Dakota Town for Just $399,000!

Why buy a house when you can own an entire town? Yes! A South Dakota town, Swett, is listed for sale.

The 6.16 acre town comes with a three-bedroom house, tire shop, three trailer houses and a bar. All these for $399,000! Swett, with a population of 2, was listed for sale last week. Owner Lance Benson, who lives with his wife in the town, is planning to include a 1990 Volvo semi-tractor as part of the deal.

The 3-bedroom house in the town has one bath, with plenty of space, and an additional garage.

According to Rapid City Journal, Swett witnessed the maximum population of 40 in the 1940s. During that period the town bustled with a few houses, a grocery store and a post office. The town was actually named after a farmer who owned the grocery store. However, as the residents shifted to bigger cities, the owners of Swett changed.

Benson bought the town in 1998, gave it up in a divorce settlement and then re-acquired it in 2012. He says he wants to keep the town but wants to focus on his core business, a traveling concession company. "If I don't sell it (the town) this first year, I would probably keep it," he told the newspaper.

According to Stacie Montgomery, Benson's real estate agent, she has been receiving phone calls and emails for days asking about the sale of the town. However, no potential buyer has yet emerged. She says she has got calls from production companies interested in using the property for reality TV shows, including one from Russia.
