Lyft's Android app is a new addition to the growing list of Android Wear-supported apps, it allows users to book a cab right from your wrist.
Google has gathered enough attention already for its Android Wear platform. Although the list of smartwatches supporting the new platform is short, developers are continuing to update their apps to support Android Wear. The latest addition is a useful one for Lyft users who will no longer need to take smartphones out of their bags and pockets to book a car. Lyft updated its Android application with support for Android Wear smartwatches, letting users call a cab directly from the smartwatch.
The new addition is ideal for heavy shoppers who often use Lyft services to travel around city malls. With hands full of bags, it can be a real challenge to handle a smartphone to book a cab. With an Android Wear smartwatch, users can call a ride seamlessly, Android Central reports.
Currently, Samsung and LG offer Android Wear smartwatches with Motorola expected to join the flock soon. The Samsung Gear Live is up for grabs from Google Play Store for $199, while the smartwatch offered by LG retails for $229. Motorola's first round-faced smartwatch, which has several buyers anticipating its launch, is expected to release soon. The price has not been announced but it is expected to retail around $240 in the US.
Lyft's Android Wear support was first demonstrated during Google's annual I/O Developers Conference last month when the internet search titan showed off various functions of Android Wear.
To be able to use Lyft's new features, users must have an Android Wear smartwatch along with a compatible Android 4.3-powered smartphone.
In addition to the Android Wear support, Lyft also rolled out a new destination shortcuts for mobile users. "You can now go to work and get back home with just a quick tap - no typing necessary. Create your shortcuts when you set your destination on your next ride," the company stated in its app description in the What's New section.
Lyft is a ride-sharing service like Uber and operates in 64 cities in the United States. Users can book cabs using the sleek app available for download on Google Play Store.
