What better way to end the 2014 FIFA World Cup than with a performance from Shakira?
FIFA confirmed Wednesday that the 37-year-old Colombian singer will perform at the World Cup closing ceremony at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro on July 13th. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shakira will perform her single "La La La (Brazil 2014)" alongside Brazilian singer Carlinhos Brown.
Guitarist Carlos Santana, hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean and Brazilian singer Alexandre Pires will also join Shakira on stage to perform the World Cup anthem, "Dar um Jeito (We Will Find a Way)".
"I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons, and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included," Shakira said in a statement. "For me the World Cup carries such a tremendous personal connection as well. This will be my third consecutive FIFA World Cup performance, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup changed my life forever - it's where I began the love story of my life, and now have my son Milan as a result."
This will be the singer's third time performing at the World Cup. Previous performances included the 2010 World Cup in Africa where Shakira performed "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" and a performance of "Hips Don't Lie" at the 2006 World Cup in Berlin.
Shakira's home team Colombia will face Brazil in the quarter-finals on Friday.
"For all of those reasons I just feel so grateful for the opportunity to come back to perform at the Closing Ceremony of this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil, it feels right," Shakira added. "The fans have shown the most incredible support for this song and I can't wait to perform it for them."
The Latin singer has been dating Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique since 2010 and in 2012, the couple welcomed their first child, Milan.
