Subaru Recall Update: California Vehicles Not Listed On Company's Pull Back List

Are you a California resident who drives a Subaru listed in the automaker's latest recall? Your car is safe after vehicles in the golden state are not included in the pull back.

The auto dealer recalled 660,238 vehicles, sold or registered in twenty-one states and Washington D.C., for faulty brake lines Tuesday. Most of these cars are registered in what the company calls its "salt belt states where snow and ice are common. California was not one of them according to a Fallbrook Bonsall Valley News report on Thursday.

In other states however, elements and conditions from the wintry mix particles can cause the automobiles' parts to deteriorate, preventing drivers from stopping properly, according to CNN. The company discovered the issue while performing tests on the affected vehicles. Officials found the brake wires weren't secure, and could split open when exposed to the cold, especially during winter. Salt water can also enter through one of the crevices, according to the Associated Press.

Road crews in the affected states which include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Maine, road crews use salt to disintegrate the wintry elements. Maryland, Masachusetts, Michigan and Minnesota are also members of the salt belt.

The affected vehicles include Legacy and Outback models made between 2005 and 2009, and Impreza vehicles from 2008 through 2011. Impreza WRX/STIs made from 2008 and 2014, and 2009 through 2013 Foresters are also included in the recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned the parts could also cause a "Driver to misjudge the amount of brake pedal travel required to achieve the desired stopping distance." Brake fluid can also seep out of the openings.CNN reported.

The company pulled back 274,000 Legacy and Outbacks in March 2013 for the same problem according to AP.
