Pink Floyd will be releasing a new album titled "The Endless River" later this year, which is the first in 20 years.
The announcement was made on Twitter by guitarist David Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson.
"Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called "The Endless River". Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful," she tweeted over the weekend.
Backing vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson confirmed the news on Facebook, shortly after Samson's tweet went viral on the Internet.
"YES. THERE IS A NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM COMING OUT. AND I'M ON IT. And there was much rejoicing," she wrote.
Unfortunately, fans who were hoping for a Roger Waters-Pink Floyd reunion will be disappointed. In comments following her post, McBroom-Hudson said that Waters, who left the band in 1985, will not feature in the new album. However, the new album will reportedly feature music from keyboardist and co-founder Rick Wright, who died of cancer in 2008 at age 65. McBroom-Hudson also said that the new album will consist entirely of unreleased songs.
"The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled 'The Big Spliff' that Nick Mason spoke about)," she explained, according to The Rolling Stones magazine. "Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them. That's the song you see being worked on in the photo."
The band achieved worldwide fame in the 1970s and 1980s with albums including "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall." Their last album was released in 1994 titled "The Division Bell."
