Honda made its most affordable motorcycle in India, called the CD 110 Dream, available today for Rs 41,100, the equivalent of about $686.
The bike, which was launched by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), is part of the company's move for a stronger position in rural areas as well as the mass segment, according to The Indian Express. It also plans to invest an additional Rs 1,000 crore toward expanding capacity in the current fiscal, as well as other activities.
"The launch of CD 110 Dream completes our portfolio in the 100-110 cc segment," said Yadvinder S Guleria, vice president of sales and marketing at HSMI. "The bike which is going to be the most affordable bike to be launched by Honda in India, will help us cater to the basic sub-segment of 100-110 cc vertical."
Guleria added that releasing the new bike will help HSMI sell 8 lakh units this financial year, as opposed to 7.3 lakh units in the previous financial year.
CD 110 Dream, which is specially developed for customers in India, comes with a mileage of 74 mpl, tubeless tires, an air filter, and a maintenance-free battery, Zee News reported.
Consumers will be able to buy the motorcycle in three shades of black - Blue Stripe, Grey Stripe and Red Stripe.
As of right now, HMSI has three production facilities in Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka, and is planning to open a fourth facility in Gujarat, The Indian Express reported.
"We are now fulfilling the utilitarian need of 'rurban' customers with the CD 110 Dream," Guleria said. "We are confident that the bike will ride Honda into the hinterlands and multiply the success of existing Dream series motorcycles."
Honda is also looking to improve sales in rural and urban areas with a new corporate campaign called 'Honda is Honda.'
"Honda is Honda (campaign) is more than just a campaign, it is the start of a new era in India," said Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO of HMSI.
