Ford is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles in North America, in six separate actions with the largest one to fix a defect in a part of the axle.
Ford Motors, the second largest American automaker after G.M., has joined the list of ever-growing number of recalled vehicles by different car makers around the world. The American car maker announced Tuesday that more than 100,000 vehicles will be recalled in North America in six separate actions. The largest recall of 92,022 vehicles will address a fault in a part of the axle, while five others will require different repairs.
Ford said it will begin addressing the fault in the right-hand halfshaft in the axle of the affected models next month. The car maker found the right-hand halfshaft is not properly seated and may disengage over time, making the vehicles inoperable. The issue can also result in unexpected rolling of parked vehicles if the parking brake is not applied. The affected models include 2013-2014 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Police Interceptor sedans, 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT crossovers, 2012-2014 Edge crossover and 2014 Lincoln MKX crossover, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Ford will also be addressing five other issues in some of its latest models, starting this month. The second largest recall involved 5,264 2011-2014 F59 Commercial Stripped Chassis vehicles to fix an issue with the electrical system that may short circuit and potentially lead to a fire. No injuries, accidents or fires have been reported related to any of the defects announced Tuesday.
Ford is also calling back 2,124 2014 Ford Escape SUVs to fix a potential fault with the panoramic glass roof and 635 2014 F53 Motor Home Stripped Chassis F59 Commercial Stripped Chassis due to a fault in the braking system. Other recalls involve 2014 368 Transit Connect vehicles shipped to Puerto Rico for a fluid reservoir cap and about 200 2014 Ford Fiesta subcompacts to repair a problem with a leaky fuel tank, another report from NBC Alive 11 adds.
Ford's recalls come at a time when the auto industry is recalling a record number of vehicles in the US. General Motors alone recalled some 25.7 million vehicles this year and Ford recalled about 3 million so far. In May, Ford recalled 1.39 million small size and full size SUVs in the US due to a problem with the power steering.
