Elisabeth Hasselbeck is not happy Rosie O'Donnell has reportedly been tapped to rejoin the cast of "The View" for Season 18. After Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced they would not be returning to the daytime talk show, producers have been eyeing the comedienne to fill one of the spots.
Hasselbeck, who got into a nasty fight with O'Donnell on "The View" back in 2007, called into her new show "Fox & Friends" to give her thoughts on the rumor. The 37-year-old former "Survivor" star is currently on vacation but told Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade that hearing the news about O'Donnell completely ruined her trip.
"What could ruin a vacation more than to hear news like this?" Hasselbeck said. "I know Rosie very well. We worked quite closely. Talk about not securing the border! Here in comes to 'The View' the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there, coming back with a bunch of control ready to regain a seat at the 'View' table."
Hasselbeck told "Fox & Friends" that O'Donnell's rumored re-hiring was "not surprising" to her and hinted that it had "been in the works for a long time." The TV personality claims that O'Donnell was the one who orchestrated Barbara Walter's farewell episode on the show because she was already in talks to come back.
"I'll go back to the reunion show for [Barbara Walters]. How odd is this, when you have the woman, who again, insinuated that our own troops were terrorists in Iraq at the time, then left the show... to have such ease the day of Barbara's goodbye show was shocking to me? She walked around with a lot of control and I had the chance to talk to her," Hasselbeck said. "Rosie herself told me, on-set, while we were mic'ed up, that she produced the reunion show to have everybody together and it was her idea. Now, would you think that the woman who left in the way that she did would be producing Barbara's goodbye show? Here's the other shocker: It was actually her hello show."
According to Page Six, nothing is official yet but producers are reportedly finalizing O'Donnell's deal, which includes the comedienne to have a say in who else will be added to the cast. Reportedly, O'Donnell is demanding that no other reality star lands the gig.
Hasselbeck told "Fox & Friends" that she's "very interested" to see how O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg will get along and warned the actress not to cross Goldberg.
"I don't think it would be wise for Rosie O'Donnell to challenge Whoopi Goldberg on anything. I really don't," Hasselbeck said.
