The 2013 French Open seeding was released on Friday. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer fill the top four seeds. Nadal is the favorite to win, according to Sports Illustrated and Fox.
Djokovic, the No. 1 seed, comes into the event looking to claim his first French Open title and complete a career Grand Slam. He won the 2013 Australian Open for the third straight year and can become the first male in more than two decades to win the Australian then French title.
Federer faces a qualifier in the first round and, if he advances, another qualifier in the second round. It's a tough road from there. He could face Julien Benneteau in the third round, Gilles Simon in the fourth and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals. He doesn't come into the Open with much momentum, and he hasn't won any titles this season.
Nadal is on the quest for his fourth straight French title and his eighth in nine years. He enters the French Open on a roll after winning this year at Barcelona, Madrid and Rome. He is favorited to win the title.
His biggest competition is Djokovic, who was the last player to beat Nadal. If the two meet, it will be in the semifinals.
Ferrer returns to the French Open after making it to the semifinals last year. He's predicted to make it to the semifinals again, but isn't expected to make it past Nadal or Djokovic for the title.
Sports Illustrated predicts:
Semifinals: Nadal vs. Djokovic; Ferrer vs. Federer.
Finals: Nadal vs. Ferrer.
Winner: Nadal.
