Google has rolled out an update to its Chromecast Android app, allowing users to cast Android smartphone content on to the television sets.
Google Chromecast owners have now a new feature that supports Android screen mirroring. The much awaited feature is a part of an update to the Chromecast Android app. This allows owners of Android smartphones to mirror the content of their phone and tablet on a Chromecast-enabled television.
The Android screen mirroring privilege is only available on select models including Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy S4, S4 GPE, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 10, HTC One and One GPE, LG G3, G2 and G Pro 2. Google says the feature is still in its beta phase and will support more handsets in the coming days.
"Now, anything on your Android device will appear on the TV," Google Chromecast Product Manager Ambarish Kenghe said in an official blog post, Wednesday. "You can share photos stored on your phone with a group of friends, or scope out the scenery for your next family vacation together on the big screen using Google Earth."
To mirror the Android smartphone on a Chromecast-enabled television, both devices must be connected on the same Wi-Fi network. The updated app will feature a new option called "Cast Screen" in the slide out menu from the left side. Choose Chromecast from the list of devices and enjoy the content of the phone on a big television screen.
The update is staged and users will get the new feature in the coming weeks. The app, however, is available for download on Google Play Store.
