Milwaukee, who went from red-hot to losing eight of their last 10 games, has cooled off and now looks to avoid a four-game sweep at home. Their latest defeat came on Wednesday in a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia.

Phillies infielders Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley both hit homers in the victory, and starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez allowed only one run on three hits through eight innings.

"I know that (the Brewers) like to swing. They key for the game today, keep the ball down," Hernandez told the Associated Press. "I control every pitch. Groundballs - that is the key to the game."

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg praised Hernandez, whom he said kept Milwaukee on their toes throughout the game.

"It looked like the ball was darting both ways," Sandberg said. "It looked like (the Brewers) were having a hard time gauging him."

Milwaukee has now lost four in a row, thanks partly to their offensive struggles at the plate.

"We're just in a funk right now," said Brewers Ron Roenicke. "We need to get big hits like they're getting big hits."

Matt Garza (6-5, 3.78 ERA) is tasked on Thursday with helping get Milwaukee out of their funk. Garza gave the Brewers their only win of July with a nine-inning, nine-strikeout game on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds, whom he limited to just two hits in the 1-0 victory.

He'll be opposed by Phillies pitcher David Buchanan (4-5, 4.82), who's looking to bounce back after losing his last two starts. Run support wasn't great in the games against Atlanta and Pittsburgh, but he gave up three earned runs in each of the outings.
