"Glee" fans will have less time to enjoy the show's final season.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the sixth and final season of "Glee" will officially run for only 13 episodes instead of the usual 22. Show creator Ryan Murphy discussed the season with FOX Network executives and agreed "the story would be best told in one final run of 13 consecutive episodes."
The network is hoping the upcoming season will be a "a big event for fans."
In the final season of the musical series fans can expect to a time-jump, with all the major characters returning to their roots in Lima, Ohio. said Murphy. He also said orginal cast members, including Jane Lynch and Matt Morrison, would return.
"I mean the final season is really its own story and its own location and while the New York stuff will be alive, the final season is really not New York-centric at all," Murphy said. "My feeling about the last season of Glee is very clear, and that is that we will be reaching out to all of the regulars on the show, that original group of Glee club members and the teachers, and anybody who wants to come back can come back. Anybody who wants to be a part of the show, we welcome them."
In May, Kevin Reilly, FOX Network's former president, announced that the final season of "Glee" would be shortened.
"The order is currently for 22, but we're actually going to sit down with Ryan Murphy and really talk about how we're going to end it and figure that out," Reilly said. "We're going to sit down and talk about exactly the best way to end the show now and how much that is."
A premiere date for season six of "Glee" has not yet been revealed.
