Sam & Cat’ Cancelled: Ariana Grande, Jennette McCurdy Show Axed Due to Backstage Drama?

Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy won't be appearing on the popular kids show, "Sam & Cat," anymore. Nickelodeon announced that after one season, the highly-rated show won't be renewed. The network did not give a specific explanation but there have been rumors of tension on set.

"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat,'" the network said in a statement, Deadline reports. "We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."

According to previous rumors, Grande (Cat Valentine) and McCurdy (Sam Puckett) were having issues when it came to their salaries. TMZ reported that the 21-year-old "Problem" singer made a lot more money than her 22-year-old co-star. At the time, Grande slammed the rumor saying it was "absolutely ridiculous and false."

"I don't know who's putting these idiotic quotes out there but I thought I'd straighten it out and try to end this nonsense," the singer wrote on Facebook. "As far as the show goes, I don't know what's happening because I'm not directly involved with the problem but I just wanted to address this one rumor in particular because I am NOT making more money than my costar, not do I think I should be."

The show was hit with another setback earlier this year when racy photos of McCurdy surfaced online. Immediately production was halted and there was speculation that Nickelodeon and McCurdy were having issues.

However, the network constantly denied that McCurdy's leaked photos contributed to the production's stand-still. Things got even tenser when the actress skipped Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards, where she and Grande were set to present an award together.

So far, McCurdy has not addressed news that "Sam & Cat" was cancelled but Grande tweeted a lengthy message thanking the show's creator, the cast and crew, and her fans.

"I felt it wasn't my place to make any sort of announcement so I kept quiet until now," she wrote on Sunday, July 13.

"I want to thank Nickelodeon for making a childhood dream of mine come true, for being a family to me, for being so accommodating and supportive of my multitasking with my music career, and for of course introducing me to many of my fans however many years ago," Grande continued. "Lastly, thank you to my fans who have been with me since all of this started... you are the most loyal, dedicated and continuously loving supporters I could ever imagine. We've been through so much and you are still here... and we've got a long way to go.... Thank you for believing in me, accepting me and loving me. I love you forever."
