The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly need to move star Kevin Love now. Minnesota is willing to trade Love to the Golden State Warriors for guard Klay Thompson or to the Cleveland Cavaliers for rookie Andrew Wiggins, according to the Associated Press.
Love is almost certain to be playing for another team before February's trade deadline. The pressure to trade Love, who purportedly told Minnesota he plans to opt out of his contract next summer, is mounting: If Minnesota wants the maximum value for the All-Star, they need to trade him sooner than later.
Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press reported sources as saying the Timberwolves need to move Love now but are trying to get the perfect trade package from either Golden State or Cleveland.
"Lots telling me Wolves HAVE to move Love now," Krawczynski tweeted Sunday. "All I can say is they don't see it that way. No Klay. No Wiggins. No Love. Period."
Golden State, who reportedly came close last month to acquiring Love, and Cleveland are widely believed to be the frontrunners to land the power forward.
Reports indicated the Timberwolves wanted a package from the Warriors that included Thompson and veteran David Lee. Thompson, though, appeared to be the hold up and talks stalled.
Cleveland was a potential trade partner prior to the draft, due to their No. 1 pick. The addition of LeBron James reportedly interested Love, whom Cleveland would want to agree to a long-term contract.
Although Wiggins is the likely player to go in any trade for Love, Cleveland appears hesitant to move the rookie.
"Sources say KLove remains 'intrigued' by chance to join LeBron with Cavs. I'm told Wolves, though, still asking for off-limited AWiggins," ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted Saturday.
In addition to Golden State and Cleveland, the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets reportedly are still trying to get Love.
