Danica Patrick's days racing in the Indianpolis 500 might be over. Her chances of running the race again becomes "less and less likely with each passing year," Indy Star reports.
"Each year my desire to race there is less and less and my apprehension grows higher and higher," Patrick told AP reporters earlier in the week.
Patrick admitted that she considered racing this year in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, but she ultimately decided against it.
"I thought this year was going to happen, but it's not going to be helpful for my Cup career," she said. "At the end of the day that's the most important thing."
Tony Stewart, her team owner, is the only driver to ever complete all 1,100 miles of both races on the same day. Patrick, however, doesn't have the desire to follow in his shoes. The Sprint Cup series is her only focus, where she looks to improve from her 28th position in the point standing.
While Patrick might never race in the Indy event again, she does remain a fan of the race and keeps tabs on what's happening.
"I love that event," she said. "Having social media allows you to see what's going on much more these days. I watched qualifying last weekend and I'm definitely going to be watching on race day."
Patrick, 31, made her start in 2005 with Indy car racing. She raced seven times in the Indy 500 before moving on in 2010 to NASCAR.
