Former "Fox & Friends" co-host Alisyn Camerota is joining the CNN team.
The network confirmed on its blog Monday that Camerota, who left FOX News Channel in March after 16 years as reporter, will begin as a contributor on CNN's programs. TheWrap reported that the 48-year-old TV journalist will be given "a permanent role" in the upcoming months.
Network president Jeff Zucker said, "I have been a fan of Alisyn's for a very long time, and couldn't be happier that she has agreed to come to CNN. She is not only a seasoned journalist with a great curiosity and passion for the news, but she has a presence on camera that I think is very hard to find. I can't wait to have her on the air at CNN."
Camerota joined FOX News in 1998 and co-anchored "America's News Headquarters" alongside Bill Hemmer. She later joined "Fox & Friends Weekend." Prior to her reporter position, she also served as National Correspondent in the network's Boston bureau.
In a separate statement, Camerota expressed her excitement.
"From the moment Jeff Zucker shared his vision for innovative storytelling at CNN, I wanted to be part of it," Camerota said. "I know the power of cable news and it's exciting to be going to the place that invented it and continues to be the standard bearer for stories of international import. I've always admired the fine work of the journalists at CNN and I'm honored to join their ranks."
