An English teacher had a sexual relationship with a teen student and threatened to fail him if he ended the affair.
Danielle Watkins, a mother of two and a teacher at Stamford High School in Connecticut, is accused of having sex multiple times with an 18-year-old student in her car during school hours, police revealed.
The authorities said that when the boy tried to break their relationship the 32-year-old teacher threatened to fail him and accused him of seeing someone else. She was charged with two counts of sexual assault along with other charges.
The student disclosed the affair to a school counselor late June. The counselor in turn informed the Department of Children and Families and the Board of Education.
According to The Courant, a local daily, Watkins and the students had sex on various occasions in her car during school hours. It was parked off the school grounds.
Watkins, a teacher for 9 years, surrendered to police in Stamford, Thursday. She is also accused of sending the student nude photos and supplying him and a 15-year-old friend with marijuana. Certain allegations also say that she allowed the student to drive her car despite knowing that he did not have a license. Police charged her with sexual assault and sale of marijuana and risk of injury to a minor in relation to a younger boy.
Authorities searched Watkins' car and found cannabis and a cell phone. According to the police, they retrieved 2,000 text messages, including nude photos Watkins sent to the teen.
Officials placed Watkins on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. She was released after posting a $100,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in court July 31.
