Kevin McEnroe, son of John McEnroe, was arrested for drug possession, Tuesday.
Kevin was stopped on E. Fourth St. near Avenue A at 11:24 p.m. after the police spotted him carrying out a drug deal.
According to The Independent, the 27-year-old was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, Wednesday. The prosecutors allege that Kevin might have had plans to sell the drugs.
He was arrested along with another man, Niro Meneses, 22, who was held on suspicion of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. If convicted Kevin might end up in jail for up to 25 years.
Kevin was carrying six glassine envelopes of cocaine, 20 oxycodone pills, 10 morphine pills and one anxiety pill, prosecutors said, reports the New York Daily News.
"Given the amount of drugs on him... we believe we have a strong intent to sell case," prosecutor Mary Ostberg said at McEnroe's Manhattan Criminal Court arraignment.
Isabelle Kirshner, Kevin's attorney, said there was "certainly nothing remarkable" about the quantity of drugs found with him.
"The entire McEnroe family is extremely upset with regard to recent developments about Kevin McEnroe," said Kirshner. "This is a private matter and his entire family will do everything we can to support Kevin as he works through his issues at this very difficult time."
He was released on $5,000 bail and is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
Kevin's parents, 7-time Grand Slam winner McEnroe and Tatum O'Neal divorced in 1994. O'Neal has been open about her battle with drug addiction.
