Actress Skye MCole Bartusiak died in her Texas home on Saturday, July 19 at the age of 21. Bartusiak is best known for playing Mel Gibson's daughter in the 2000 movie, "The Patriot." According to Variety, the cause of death is not yet known.
Her mother, Helen Bartusiak, told the Associated Press Skye was living in the garage apartment above their house and was found unresponsive in bed by her boyfriend. Helen said she tried to perform CPR but it didn't work.
The mother also spoke to CNN and said paramedics tried for 45 minutes to revive Skye "and could not get a heartbeat."
"I've done CPR on that kid more than one time and it just didn't work this time," Helen reportedly told CNN.
"We lost our girl," she added. "She was a kind and really beautiful girl."
According to CNN, Skye suffered from epileptic seizures since she was a baby, but the seizures disappeared for a few years before returning sometime last week.
"We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there," Helen said.
Skye appeared in several movies as a child actress including "The Cider House Rules" in 1991 and "Don't Say a Word." She also had small parts in TV show like "24," "Lost" and "House M.D."
