Xbox One to Get Sharing Features and Blu-Ray Support in August Update

Microsoft's Xbox One game console is set to receive an update in August that includes support for 3D Blu-ray movies, social, and sharing features.

Gamers were given a taste of the new features in the update Friday from Xbox Live's Larry Hryb, a.k.a "Major Nelson," according to PC Magazine.

"We're adding new ways for you to interact with friends in the activity feed," Hryb wrote in a blog post. "The interface will change to a single column scrolling list that is longer and includes more content."

Gamers will be able to post updates to their feeds and "like" and comment on different feed items. The option to share game clips publicly and privately is also available, and the console will let players know when anyone likes, comments on, or shares their items. The update is also bringing a personal feed to each player's profile, which allows users to see what their friends have been doing.

The ability to make mobile purchases is already available for Sony's PlayStation 4. However, unlike the PS4, support for 3D Blu-ray movies is now an Xbox One feature, CNET reported.

Additional features coming in August include mobile purchases, in which gamers can buy games and other items from Xbox.com or the SmartGlass app. Gamers can then have the items downloaded remotely from their Xbox Ones. Players will also receive different notifications, such as disable notifications during video and a notification of when their battery is low so they can recharge the console. OneGuide is also going to be available for Xbox One users in Brazil, Mexico, Ireland and Austria, so players in these countries can now connect their consoles to their TV and look through TV listings.

The Friends area on Home is also being updated to give players a look at the top trending games, a Gamescore leaderboard and friends' current activity, PC Magazine reported.

"We're doing an extended preview on this, rolling it into the early access preview this month to a subset of our preview audience so we can refine it until it's ready for the entire Xbox One market," Hryb wrote.

Gamers who can obtain early access to the updates can get the new features next week.
