Zimbabwe won the first ODI of the series by six wickets. Sean Williams earned the Man of the Match award for his performance, which included scoring a game-high 70 runs and notching 10 outs. Skipper Brendan Taylor and Sikandar Raza added 43 and 42 runs, respectively. On the bowling front, Donald Tiripano and Tendai Chatara both took two wickets apiece.

Afghanistan's Samiullah Shenwari led the team with 65 runs (not out), and skipper Mohammad Nabi chipped in with 54 runs. They struggled on the bowling front, managing to take a total of only four wickets.
