DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns commented on rumors of a crossover between their television and film franchises. Johns claimed film and television would remain separate during Television Critics Association press tour, IGN reports.
"You'll see a lot of DC universe characters [on The Flash and Arrow],” Johns said. “You won't see Batman or Superman. We're on production on Batman V Superman now. So you'll see characters like The Atom or Firestorm, but no not Batman or Superman right now [on TV]."
"It's a separate universe than film so that the filmmakers can tell the story that's best for film," Johns added. "While we explore something different in a different corner of the DC universe…We will not be integrating the film and television universes."
“Dark Knight” trilogy actor Gary Oldman recently commented on the “Batman vs. Superman” universe integration. During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Oldman revealed his opinions about mixing the two universes. Oldman credited the success of the “Dark Knight” franchise to Christopher Nolan basing the films in “reality.”
“They want to keep it going. Of course they do. But, it’s Superman yeah? Batman and Superman together? We shall see,” Gordon told Yahoo. “The thing about Nolan, there was some grounding of reality to it. In our trilogy, and as fantastical and as big as The Joker was, it was based [on reality]… we could relate to it. But now we’ve got a Batman and we’ve got a guy who can fly who’s an alien? We’ll have to see…It’s got big shoes to fill.”
In other “Batman vs. Superman” news, the film’s production is in full swing and reportedly planning a big car chase in early August.
OLV reports the “Batman vs. Superman” production is taking over Sixth and Abbott St in Detroit’s Corktown district in Michigan. The production has sent out notices informing local business to expect smoke and “fast moving cars.” There are reportedly multiple filming locations along 15 blocks in the Michigan.
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
