Lenovo announced Friday that it has stopped selling its ThinkPad 8 tablet in the U.S. because of low demand.
However, the Chinese computer technology company added that it still sells small form factor tablets in U.S. stores, according to PC Magazine.
"We will continue to bring new Windows devices to market across different screen sizes, including a new 8-inch tablet and 10-inch tablet coming this holiday," Lenovo said. "Our model mix changes as per customer demand, [but] we are not getting out of the small-screen Windows tablet business."
The company will continue to sell its 8-inch devices in South America and Asia, Raymond Gorman, spokesperson for Lenovo, said are experiencing a growing demand for the devices, Apple Insider reported.
"In other markets, particularly Brazil, China, and Japan, the demand for ThinkPad 8 has been much stronger, so we are adjusting our ThinkPad 8 inventories to meet increasing demand in those markets. If market demand for ThinkPad8 changes, we will re-evaluate our strategy," Gorman said.
He added that the company is experiencing a greater demand for larger tablets in North America, PCWorld reported.
"In North America, we're seeing stronger interest in the larger screen sizes for Windows tablets and are pleased with initial customer demand for the ThinkPad 10," Gorman said in an email.
Lenovo mentioned that it was seeing success with its other 8-inch tablets and the Miix 2, which the company said had "sold out." The ThinkPad 8 first became available in the U.S. in January of this year, and the Miix 2 arrived in U.S. stores last September.
Shoppers in the U.S. will still be able to buy Lenovo's larger tablets, such as the 10.1-inch ThinkPad 10, which is available for $693, and the 10.1-inch Miix 2, which is available for $499.
