Backstreet Boys Postpone Shows in Israel's Tel Aviv Due to Mideast Violence

The Backstreet Boys are not heading to Israel.

In response to the recent escalation of violence surrounding Israel and Hamas, the band has decided to pull the plug on their performance at the Ra'anana Amphitheater near Tel Aviv on July 29, 30 and 31. According to a statement released on the band's site, the scheduled performance would have been the group's first concert in the area.

"Due to the security situation, we regret to announce that the BSB shows planned for July 29-30-31 at Ra'anana Amphitheater have been postponed," read a statement on the band's website. "To assure the safety of the audience in the events, we will schedule new dates during spring 2015."

In a message to their fans the band wrote, "This is a major disappointment for the band and fans, as this was to be our first visit to Israel and we looked forward to meeting our fans. We're already working with the producers on new dates during spring 2015 and will notify everyone about this as soon as possible. Sending lots of love to everyone."

According to the band's site, tickets purchased for the cancelled shows will be available for uses for future planned shows. Fans can request a full refund.

Other artists - including Neil Young and Crazy Horse - have also announced the cancellation or rescheduling of shows in Israel. Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and CeeLo Green are scheduled to perform in the war-torn country in the coming months.
