Facebook Finally Introduces ‘Save on Facebook’ For Later Reads

Facebook has finally launched "Save on Facebook" after nearly two years of rigorous testing to increase the time spent on the site.

The world's largest social networking site, Facebook announced Monday that it is launching the long-overdue "Save on Facebook" feature that will help its users save content for later reads. The introduction follows years of failed attempts and vigorous testing by Facebook since 2012. However, the long wait is justified by the usefulness of the new feature that allows users to bookmark anything on the site to read later.

Facebook will no longer have to scroll through hundreds of posts to look for an old article on the News Feed. The feature goes beyond saving articles. Now you can locate the restaurant that your friend visited, or the book that your friend was reading or even the music track that your friend was listening. Keeping track of so many things can be hectic, especially when you are busy with real-world things.

"Every day, people find all sorts of interesting items on Facebook that they don't have time to explore right away," Facebook software engineer, Daniel Giambalvo wrote in the company's blog post, Monday. "Now you can save items that you find on Facebook to check out later when you have more time. You can save items like links, places, movies, TV and music. Only you can see the items you save unless you choose to share them with friends."

The feature originally came to light in 2012, but it never came to fruitation due to its less-than friendly interface. The social network did not give up on the idea as it began testing the feature again in November last year. The report claimed Facebook built "Save on Facebook" from the ground up to give it a more realistic experience.

It appears Facebook is finally satisfied with the feature and will begin rolling out to iOS, Android and Web users in the days to come. Once bookmarked using "Save on Facebook," users can view the items anytime by accessing the saved items in the "More" tab on mobile or in the left hand panel on the web, the company writes.

The saved content can be organized by category and users can share or archive it with a simple swipe to the right.
