Noah Hawley, the creator of the FX show "Fargo," dished on the upcoming second season at the Television Critics Association fall previews on Monday, July 21 and said that Season 2 will travel back in time and bring some of the characters from the first season with it.
According to TV Guide, the new season will center on an incident that happened in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1979. During the premiere season, cop-turned-diner owner Lou Solverson (Keith Carradine) often referred to a mysterious incident that occurred in his past. At the time, Lou was 33 and had just returned home from the Vietnam War.
In addition to Sioux Falls, the new season will also take place around Luverne, Minn. Joining Lou in Season 2 will also be Lt. Ben Schmidt (Peter Breitmayer), who portrays officer Gus Grimley's (Colin Hanks) boss.
Because the show is traveling back in time, Hawley said actress Allison Tolman won't reprise her role as Molly Solverson; in 1979 she would have been 4-years-old.
"Lou Solverson is a state police officer [in the new season]," Hawley said. "His wife Betsy, her dad is the sheriff of Rock County. [Lou's] father-in-law is a character in this next go-round. I don't know if we see any other Solversons... I'm excited to spend time with Molly's mom."
According to TV Guide, casting has not begun for Season 2. The first season of the miniseries took place in 2006 and centered on Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman), an insurance salesman, who becomes entangled with wanderer Lorne Malvo (Billy Bob Thornton).
Deputy Molly Solverson (Tolman) and Duluth police officer Gus Grimly (Hanks) team up to solve murders they believe to be linked to Lester and Lorne. The series is based on the 1996 movie with the same name.
Season 2 will premiere in the fall of 2015 and will begin shooting in January, TV Guide reports.
