Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Release Date Set for July 2017, Six Years After ‘On Stranger Tides’

Disney announced the long-awaited film "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" has locked down a July 2017 release date. The fifth installment in the franchise, which stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, was originally given a 2015 release date but was pushed back, reportedly due to budget concerns and an unfinished script.

On Wednesday, July 23 Disney announced fans could expect the movie to hit theaters July 7, 2017, Variety reports. The fourth installment in the franchise, "On Strange Tides," was released in 2011. Lately Disney has been announcing their release dates for potentially hit movies well in advance.

On Friday, it revealed release dates for five untitled Marvel movies ending in 2019. The dates are July 27, 2017; Nov. 3, 2017; July 6, 2018; Nov. 2, 2018; and May 3, 2019. According to Variety, Marvel might announce some of the films planned for those dates during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Marvel already has a few other movies lined up including a third "Captain America" given a release date of May 6, 2016, which will go head-to-head with Warner Bros.' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

It was also rumored that Warner Bros. also had several movies already lined up for the next few years. Journalist Nikki Finke leaked the alleged lineup on her website. The schedule is said to be:
