Adrian Peterson: Gay Marriage 'Not Something I Believe In,' Minnesota Vikings RB Says 'To Each His Own'

NFL MVP Adrian Peterson doesn't believe in gay marriage. He made his comments during an interview on Sirius/XM NFL Radio, the Associated Press reports.

Peterson made his comments on the radio show last week. He said he has family members who are gay whom he loves and respects, but he isn't for gay marriage. Gay marriage is "not something I believe in," Peterson said.

"To each his own, [but] I'm not with it," he said. "I have relatives who are gay. I'm not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love 'em. But again, I'm not with that. That's not something I believe in. But to each his own."

Peterson made his comments when asked about the Vikings releasing punter Chris Kluwe, an outspoken advocate for gay rights.

"It hurt me to see him leave," Peterson said.

He added: "I'm sure the Vikings organization didn't release him based on that. They know Kluwe. They've been knowing him for a long time. They know he's outspoken."

Gay marriage becomes legal on Aug. 1 in Minnesota.

Peterson, the reigning MVP, is one of the top running backs in the NFL. He recorded 2,097 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns last season after suffering a torn ACL the previous year.
