Maksim Chmerkovskiy is so over "Dancing with the Stars."
Chmerkovskiy, who appeared in 13 seasons and made it into four finals, confirmed Tuesday during an appearance on ABC's "The View" that he would not be returning to the series as a professional dancer.
"I'm done dancing," he told the show's audience. "I feel like it's time."
E! News reported that the crowd erupted in cries of protest after Chmerkovskiy broke the news of his departure. The Ukrainian professional dancer said there was no negativity between himself and the show and added that he "loved the experience."
"When I came back to the show, it was not the same. I was different, probably," he said. "When I came back, I saw this amazing talent, Val [Chmerkovskiy] included. I looked at it and thought they can do much more and better, I was taking up a huge spot."
During his announcement, host Sherri Shepherd clarified that Chmerkovskiy is only leaving the show as a professional dancer, but could return in another capacity.
For season 18, Chmerkovskiy won his first mirror ball with his partner, Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis. The pair beat out actress Candace Cameron Bure and her professional partner Mark Ballas, as well as paralympian Amy Purdy and Derek Hough in the show's season finale.
Days after winning the dancing competition, Chmerkovskiy expressed interest in returning to the show as a judge - even telling TV personality Wendy Williams that he would accept the position if the show offered him one.
E! News reported Chmerkovskiy recently served as a judge on India's version of "Dancing with the Stars." Longtime judge Len Goodman hinted he would be stepping down from his judge's chair at the end of the season.
The show's executive producer Rob Wade told E! News that he hopes Chmerkovskiy, who he has known for 10 years, returns to the show for the upcoming season.
"I'm absolutely hoping Maks comes back to the show," Wade said earlier this month. "I don't know whether it's going to be as a dancer. I think there's a number of different things we can talk to him about and the way he'd be involved in the show. Maks will always be part of Dancing With the Stars in some way,"
Season 19 of "Dancing with the Stars" premieres Monday, Sept. 15 on ABC.
