Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar are the latest celebrities to voice their opinion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In an open letter to Spanish-language newspaper Europa Press, the trio, along with other Spanish actors, directors, and writers, described Israel's actions in Gaza as "genocide" and slammed the country for its attack on the Gaza Strip
"Gaza is living through horror these days, besieged and attacked by land, sea and air," the letter stated. "Palestinians' homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity (and) free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing."
The letter urged Israel to "lift the blockade, which the Gaza Strip has suffered for more than a decade," and asked the country to "open border crossings to facilitate the mobility of the population, the entry of medical equipment, medicines and food."
Last week, Bardem wrote a separate letter for El Diario, saying, "I am disgusted, embarrassed and hurt by so much injustice and murder. (The attacks are) difficult to understand and impossible to justify. These children are our children."
The overall death toll in Gaza has reached at least 1,300 lives - many of them civilians and children.
The Spanish stars are following in the steps of other celebrities, including singers Zayn Malik, Rihanna and Selena Gomez, and comedian Joan Rivers, who have spoken out against the senseless violence. Singer Madonna recently took to social media to ask Israel for a ceasefire.
She posted a picture of flower arrangements with the captioned, "These flowers are like the innocent children of Gaza! Who has a right to destroy them? No one!!! Cease fire! #peaceinthemiddleeast."
