A Florida grandmother mouthed "I love you" to her husband as she was sentenced to jail for six months for having sex in public with another man in her retirement village.
Peggy Klemm, 68, was spotted by multiple community residents who witnessed Klemm and David Bobilya, 49, engaging in sexual activity at the Lake Sumter Landing Market Square pavilion - a popular spot for night time entertainment - at around 10:30 p.m. on June 2.
Bobilya is also serving a six-month sentence on the same charges.
When investigators arrived, Klemm had her shirt pulled down and was missing her pants. Bobilya's pants and underwear were pulled down to his ankles at the scene. The couple was arrested at the scene for public indecency.
"She is a super woman as far as I'm concerned...And she deserves a second chance. That's all I have to say," Frank Klemm, Klemm's husband of 50 years, told Click Orlando.
Klemm, a grandmother of 14, takes care of her husband who has an amputated leg that he lost to cancer. According to local newspaper The Villages, her husband is using a credit card to pay off legal fees, and hopes to bring her home soon.
Several letters to the editor were received by The Village protesting the harshness of her sentence - including one by her son, Steve Klemm, which was published.
"She's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet," wrote Klemm's son. "She was the one in grade school who never had a lunch to eat because there just wasn't any food or money at home. She's the one that carried her son, David, for 9 months and then had to bury him soon after. She's the one that raised her four children on naval bases while her husband went to sea for months at a time..."
This incident occurred just four days prior to Klemm's settlement of a DUI charge for operating a golf cart in her retirement village while under the influence of alcohol.
Klemm has 135 days left in jail.
