HP Coming Out with New Smartwatch for Men This Fall

Hewlett-Packard and American fashion designer Michael Bastian are working together to develop a new smartwatch for men.

While most smartwatches are marketed toward both men and women, the new device is targeted specifically towards gentlemen, according to PC Magazine. The watch will include technology made by HP, along with a 44mm stainless steel case, inlaid button controls, and three interchangeable bands, which include black rubber, brown leather, and green nylon.

"A watch like this should provide men with quick, simple, accurate information at a glance, much like the displays and dials of a car dashboard- you can almost think of it as a personal dashboard for your digital life," Bastian said.

The watch is designed to work with both Android and iOS devices, and syncs with an app that lets users interact with the watch's interface, Mobile Enterprise reported.

Wearers will also be able to customize different usage modes and features, such as quick time, weather, date, stocks, and sports updates. It will also be possible for users to receive emails and notifications on social media and read text messages, as well as stay informed with calendar and appointment reminders. There will be a notification for battery status, too. The watch is water-resistant, includes automatic time zone adjustment, and has a power reserve that lasts up to seven days.

"As a men's designer, I'm very interested in all of the recent developments in the 'tech wearables' category- particularly smartwatches. With the early devices I've seen, the design and feel of the watch take a bakeseat to the technology," Bastian said. "I really felt there was a need for a device that looked and felt like a stylish watch first. The smartwatch I've developed is just that- a great looking watch that also lets you stay connected and informed wherever you are."

Those interested in the new smartwatch will be able to buy it from Gilt.com, where it will be made available exclusively this fall, PC Magazine reported. Neither HP nor Bastian revealed an exact release date or price for the device.

"Here at Gilt, we're always looking for new ways to give our members access to unique products and experiences they can't find anywhere else," said Tracey Weber, COO of Gilt. "This was the perfect opportunity to combine style and innovation like no other."
