‘The Wire’ Actor Anwan Glover Stabbed, Beaten at D.C. Nightclub

Actor Anwan Glover, best known his role as Slim Charles on the HBO series "The Wire," was stabbed early Sunday morning at a Washington D.C. nightclub. According to The Washington Post, Glover was supporting a friend's band when a fight broke out.

A police report states that an unidentified man approached Glover while he was on the second floor of Café Asia and punched him. When the 41-year-old turned to confront the man, a second guy hit Glover in the back of the head causing him to fall.

Reportedly the two guys began to kick the actor and a bystander started yelling that somehow had a knife. According to The Washington Post, Glover was stabbed on the right side of his torso and immediately taken to George Washington University Hospital.

After receiving treatment for the wound, Glover was released.

"As many of you are aware, I was involved in an incident last night. While supporting another band, at their show, I was involved in an altercation with some unknown people. While defending myself, I was stabbed. I was hospitalized and have been released. I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I'm going to spread love," Glover wrote on Instagram following the incident. "I am recovering and will be back soon. My flesh may be stabbed but my spirit is unbreakable. I want to thank all of my fans, followers and friends for their inquiries, [well] wishes, prayers and love. I love you all back and I'm always going to love my city... FYI I lost my phone and will get my new one tomorrow. Much love Anwan Big G Glover."

The Washington Post reported that 20 minutes before the attack involving the actor, another person was assaulted at the club. A 37-year-old woman told police that she got into an argument with a guy she didn't know and he punched her in the face. The woman was escorted out of the club.

D.C. police spokeswoman, Officer Paul Metaclif, told the newspaper that she doesn't believe the two incidents are connected.
