Director Paul Feig scored major success at the box office with female-led movies like "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat"- but can he achieve the same accomplishment with a "Ghostbusters" reboot starring an all-female cast?
Feig is reportedly in talks with Sony to direct a "Ghostbusters" film, which will also be developed using all-female actors playing the lead characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony has not announced a new director for the film since Ivan Reitman dropped out in March.
Sources close to the film said Feig was Sony's first choice to direct the upcoming reboot.
There has been conflicting reports on whether the film will be an all-female reboot from the 1984 original or a continuation of the original series, which would reportedly feature return cast members Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
"Feig is not helming 'Ghostbusters 3' or another sequel, in any sense of the word, as has been incorrectly reported," Variety reported Saturday. "The movie is a total reboot most likely with female characters played by comedic actresses in the ghostbusting roles, according to sources. The script will be written from scratch."
The script, by writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, has reportedly been revised several times, especially after the death of actor and co-writer Harold Ramis. Sony has yet to confirm a director or direction the action flick will be taking.
Feig is currently working on an action comedy titled "Spy," which stars actress Melissa McCarthy and is slated for release in 2015.
What do you think about Feig directing another "Ghostbusters" film?
