An O.C. star could lose her home after reportedly owing $100,000 in back mortgage payments.
People Magazine reported that actress Mischa Barton could lose her luxurious Beverly Hills mansion after failing to pay over $100,000 on her mortgage. In a foreclosure notice obtained by TMZ, the actress is reportedly five months behind on mortgage payments.
Barton bought the home in 2005 for $6.4 million, but she reportedly took out a loan totaling $4.2 million to help with the purchase. The property includes eight bedrooms, 11 baths, a marble staircase, a formal dining room, a huge master suite and three guesthouses on 1.2 acres. The property includes a pool and spa on the grounds.
NBC's "Today" reported that the actress failed to sell or rent out her Beverly Hills villa. In 2010, she attempted to sell the house for $8.7 million and relisted it again in 2011. Last year, Barton tried to rent it out for $35,000 - but she still had no takers.
The 7,607-square-foot Spanish-style home has been placed in foreclosure, unless Mischa can provided a payment or strikes an agreement deal.
Barton has been unnoticeably absent from the limelight in recent years. She got her big break on "The O.C." at age 17 and won Teen Choice Awards in 2004, 2005 and 2006 for her role on the TV drama. She has aslo appeared in films such as "Notting Hill" and "The Sixth Sense."
In December 2007, Barton was arrested for DUI and eighteen months later she had "a full-on breakdown" and was hospitalized for a psychiatric examination.
