Times Square Bus Crash Injures 14

Two tourist buses collided today in New York City's Times Square, resulting in at least 14 people being injured, AFP reported.

A red Greyline bus and a blue City Sights bus crashed near the TKTS booth, where discount Broadway tickets are available for purchase, NBC News stated.

A fire department spokesman told AFP 3 people suffered serious injuries, though they are not life-threatening. FDNY officials said in a news conference 13 of injured were pedestrians, NBC News reported.

The victims were taken to Mount Sinai Roosevelt, ABC-7 reported, also stating that there were 15 injured in the crash, 14 of them pedestrians.

Oville Anderson told the New York Times, "All of a sudden we heard this big boom. I saw the light pole coming over and fall down. I looked over and saw people laying on the ground. It was scary," he said.

Another witness told ABC-7 New York that one of the buses was coming at "a very high rate of speed and landed right near my daughter."

NBC News reports the cause of the crash is not known.

The Times Square Alliance says there are 350,000 pedestrians entering the main intersection of Times Square daily, while 115,000 drivers/passengers pass through by car and bus every day," Yahoo News reported.
