A CNN anchor who is being sued for allegedly biting and threatening EMT workers in Iraq is blaming her behavior on an empty stomach and too much alcohol, Yahoo News reports.
The Wrap states complaints against the anchor, Arwa Damon, became public when Charles Simons and Tracy Lamar filed a lawsuit against CNN America after a displeasing encounter with Damon at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad last month.
The $2 million lawsuit was filed in New York Supreme Court on Monday, Yahoo News reports.
EMTs Simons and Lamar were trying to treat Damon when the alleged incident took place. In their lawsuit they claim CNN was aware of Damon's history of violence, according to TMZ.
According to Yahoo News, New York Post's Page Six obtained a copy of an apology email Damon sent after the incident.
The person claiming to be Damon wrote that she was exhausted and "had not had proper food all day and clearly miscalculated how my body would handle the alcohol consumed ... Needless to say, I am utterly mortified and take full responsibility for my actions, which are inexcusable," Yahoo News stated.
According to Yahoo News, the email continues with, "I am being filled in on the details of my behavior. I am beyond embarrassed. My actions and words were entirely out of my character, and I hope that everyone can, at some point, forgive me."
A CNN spokesperson told Yahoo News, "We are aware of the lawsuit and are looking into it."
